Advancing personalized medicine in the digital age requires solutions developed in the IT and software sector, e.g. big data, machine learning, IT security, and data protection.It was the aim of PERMIDES to contribute to the reconfiguration of the biopharmaceutical value chain and provide digital solutions to overcome innovation barriers by establishing collaborations between small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the biopharma and the IT sector. This reconfiguration should strengthen the competitiveness and foster the innovation potential of personalized medicine as an emerging industry in Europe.To this end, PERMIDES provided a semantic online matchmaking portal (PERMIDES Platform) as well as matchmaking and dissemination events that allowed biopharma enterprises to identify a suitable IT partner who could deliver custom solutions. Furthermore, biopharmaceutical SMEs collaborating with IT partners were supported with a total direct funding of €2.7 mio for joint innovation projects to tackle an innovation barrier in the value chain.
