PhD Student – Next Generation Mapping of RNA:DNA Hybrids (R-Loops) (m/f/d)

IMB (www.imb.de) is a research institute on the campus of Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz, Germany.  It is generously funded by the Boehringer Ingelheim Foundation and the state of Rhineland-Palatinate.

A PhD student position is open in the Research Training Group (RTG). 4R: R-loop Regulation in Robustness and Resilience. 4R aims to gain mechanistic insights regarding how RNA-based processes contribute to robustness and resilience, especially through R-loops.„4R: “R-loop Regulation in Robustness and Resilience”. R-loops are genomic DNA:RNA hybrids that function at the interface of genome stability and gene regulation. www.cha-mainz.de/joint-programmes/4r

How R-loops are formed, removed, and regulated is a current topic in epigenetics. An important approach to characterize R-loops is their genome-wide mapping.  In this project you will optimize existing protocols for R-loop mapping using Next-Generation sequencing. You will also apply computational tools to analyze R-loop distribution. As part of the 4R RTG, you will also get training in current techniques and soft skills, participate in student symposiums and retreats, and attend an international conference.
