The Institute of Molecular Biology (IMB) is a Centre of Excellence for Life Sciences funded by the Boehringer Ingelheim Foundation and located within the campus of the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz, Germany. Applications are invited for a postdoctoral researcher position in the laboratory of Dr Vassilis Roukos ( The successful applicant will contribute to the internationally competitive research on identifying molecular mechanisms that maintain genome stability. The group employs an interdisciplinary approach, combining molecular and cell biological methodologies, state-of-the-art genomics and high-throughput microscopy techniques to elucidate molecular and cellular mechanisms that preserve the genome integrity (see Gothe et al, Mol Cell, Jul 25;75(2):267-283; 2019).

You will

  • Study cellular and molecular mechanisms leading to the formation of DNA double-strand breaks and of oncogenic genome rearrangements
  • Obtain training in state-of-the-art genomics, high-throughput microscopy, DNA repair and relevant scientific fields
  • Have access to all IMB Core Facilities
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners
  • Work in close cooperation with a team of experimental, image analysis and computational researchers to facilitate novel discoveries
